Chapter 109 May tomorrow come quickly
"If the report is too long, the key points might get scattered, right? The information must be accurate and concise."
This person responded to my agitation without a hint of expression. At this rate, even if she were a spy, she wouldn't be easily revealed.
"In that case, the decision might have been quick. There's still a huge piece of news left."
"Oh, right. That was a big mistake."
She lightly tapped her own head with a clenched fist and stuck her tongue out slightly.
As Joanna walked toward me, her gaze lingered on my neck when we passed each other—a necklace with a black bead inserted.
"That's a Gift Sphere, right? The color is black, so it's a [Mech], huh? Stolen from Taltus's Blum?"
"...Yeah, but?"
"Well, congratulations on your achievements."
She chuckled and then returned to the inn.
Although I trust Kyrie and the other two unconditionally, if the one who had given the necklace was the same person who installed the transmitter, the possibility was high that she was the spy. There was no evidence, but it was enough to raise suspicions. As the elder, I might need to be cautious.

"Oh my, Beato-chan, you're sitting on Kyrie-chan's lap. Hey, Mel-chan, could it be that these two have made quite some progress?"
"Giggle, actually, that's true...!"
"No, it's not! There's been no progress! Come on, Beato, get off."
Joanna's bathroom break took quite a while.
A little later, Toka also returned. I wonder if they weren't in the bathroom, but talking about something together.
"Hey, Toka. What were you talking about?"
"Oh, caught us? Well, just a casual self-introduction between adults. The youngsters don't need to worry."
She said that, but I was still intrigued. Also, Beato, who descended from my lap, was now leaning against me, which was slightly concerning.
"All right, enough of the small talk. I heard from Toka that there's some huge news. It's sad not knowing about it."
Did Toka say that? It seemed she didn't reveal the details yet.
"It'll be quite a surprise, I bet. After all, our leader was alive and well in Pireapolis."
"Oh my. Oh my, oh my. Leader is alive? That's surprising. This is the most surprising thing I have heard in a while."
I'd like to call her out for lying, but for some reason, Joanna seemed genuinely surprised, which was unusual for her.
"Why would you report that the leader died? It's unlike Joanna not to verify the information."
"I saw him get hit by Mord. He fell down and rolled off the roof afterward."
"Well, if you saw that, it's understandable to think he died."
Still, I wished she had conveyed the information accurately. Strah mourned so much.
"And then, the leader somehow became ridiculously strong. Stronger than the people of Taltus army, it seemed. However, he lost his memory. Forgot everything about Stige, the resistance, family, and friends."
"I see. The likely cause is the residual effects of the 'Three Nights Over' poison."
"'Three Nights Over'... I feel like I've heard that before..."
In the end, I still didn't quite understand what it was. Come to think of it, I've heard this term before, haven't I?
"A chimera is a somewhat special monster. It's not a naturally occurring magical creature."
"Naturally occurring... wait, monsters come into being naturally? Aren't they born from red stones?"
"Surprisingly knowledgeable again. Well, never mind that for now; let's not get sidetracked. Indeed, mysterious red stones read biological information and create monsters."
Our speculation, based on what Toka witnessed in Paradis's underground, seemed to be right on the mark. It meant those in Paladis were conducting experiments to create monsters. They were getting darker and darker.
"About fifty years ago, there was a certain demon wizard. He sought power beyond everything, and after a long study that risked his life, he found it. A potion made by mixing the poison of a giant snake, the blood of a lion and a tiger, and the bodily fluid of the mythical beast called a griffin. Injecting this potion into the body would grant an immense power that surpasses limits."
"About fifty years ago... Could it be the demon wizard from the hero's legend of the 'Magic Sword'?"
It's a well-known story, where a powerful and evil wizard appeared, and a hero wielding a magical sword, the 'Magic Sword,' defeated him.
"Yes, that's right. The story of how he gained power is treated as top-secret by Paladis. Of course, it involves things related to the generation of monsters."
"Um, the ingredients for the potion are chimera parts, right...? You don't mean..."
"Let's get back to the story. The wizard who obtained the ingredients for the potion couldn't succeed in the concoction no matter how many times he tried. What do you think the wizard did?"
Well, even if you suddenly ask me...
"The answer is, he lost his temper."
"Huh?"
Lost his temper?
"In a fit of rage, he threw a blinking red stone he happened to find during his journey of gathering materials. When he threw it in a fit of anger, the red stone simultaneously read the information of the four beasts, and that's how the chimera, the monster, was born. The last missing piece needed to create the potion was the red stone. This is the true identity of the Chimera and 'Three Nights Over.'"
The potion created inside the body of the chimera, 'Three Nights Over,' transforms the body of the person who takes it from the inside out over three days, granting immense power. However, because the obtained power is too overwhelming, in most cases, the body cannot withstand it, leading to death. Even if someone manages to survive, abnormalities occur in memory and personality... that's what Joanna told us.
"The wizard, despite gaining power, changed completely. As you know, he rampaged around as an evil wizard and was defeated by a hero."
"...So, is there a possibility of the leader's memory returning?"
"It's close to zero."
The last thing Joanna revealed was a cruel truth. I thought I'd just casually let Strah know when I returned to Stige, but now I need to seriously consider whether I should talk about the leader...
***
Three Nights Over, huh? Considering Rugolf's background, it's quite an interesting fate. Given his preference for using chimeras, he must have his own thoughts on the matter.
Anyway, Kyrie and the others told me various things after that. From the assassination of the minister to the experiments in Paladis's underground facility, and even the true nature of the Gift Spheres. She had managed to uncover everything by pretending not to know, quite impressive, quite impressive.
Of course, I had shared various things with them, too. Like how Rugolf was behaving himself for now, hehe.
"...I also need to work hard. To have Kyrie-chan kill a lot of formidable soldiers from the Taltus army."
To start with, it was Leah-san, right? Let's use her as a trigger and set Kyrie-chan against Rugolf.
"Do your best, Kyrie-chan. Until the day you confront the Oracle, keep killing, keep killing. Then both my precious 'child' and I will be incredibly happy."
Well, even if Rugolf killed her, it's fine since I would get the super-powerful Gift Sphere with the [Boil] attribute.
With the wind wrapped around my body, I headed straight toward the castle where Rugolf was. I had informed him of Leah-san using a messenger bird, but I still needed to finalize the details of the plan. I'm such a capable ally.
However, I was concerned about that Dwarf girl. She seemed suspicious of me, so I needed to do something about it. Alright, let's make preparations for that as well!
"Hehe, I'm really looking forward to it. May tomorrow come quickly!"

Aw dang, Joanna's a traitor? That sucks. There were a lot of clues, but still... Then again, it isn't actually clear what her goal is, so it could be that her agenda isn't evil.
